ABOUT THIS TRIP ALL INCLUSIVE

OUr GUIDES DO ALL THE WORK, YOU HAVE ALL THE FUN

Spend the days running Class III-IV rapids, fishing, hiking, relaxing, or trying your hand at an inflatable kayak.  Where the Snake River heads north and forms the border between Idaho and Oregon, it forms Hells Canyon, The Deepest Gorge in North America. Rugged rock walls and grassy slopes rise from the water, as you delve into the surging whitewater while it pulses through Hells Canyon. Where boulders and rock slides have rolled into the river, we find the biggest rapids in the Pacific Northwest.

Day 02 Ride the Rapids, AND Make Lifelong Friends!

Our river guides will meet us at 7:00 AM with watertight bags and containers will be distributed, as well as breakfast.  After breakfast will will head to the launch site in Hells Canyon.  The guides will have the boats ready to go.  After a short safety orientation, we finish strapping down our gear and launch for the trip of a lifetime.  The day is spent running rapids, and a short hike to the old Barton Family Homestead.

Each day we stop for a riverside lunch break around noon.  This is a great time to get to know the other guides and guests, fish a little, and usually we take a short hike.

When we arrive to camp you will find your tents set and your gear bags packed up.  There is time for relaxing, hiking, fishing, or reading a book from our Hells Canyon Raft Library.

Hors d’oeuvres are served around 6ish, and dinner around 7:30.  After dinner and a Dutch Oven dessert there is time around the campfire to tell stories of conquered rapids, fish tails or roasting s’mores.  The stars start to appear, inviting conversations with old and new friends.  Soon it is time to wander off to your tent and bed.  Get ready to jump into a day where the rapids are wild, but the friendships you’ll make are wilder! ?‍♀️?

Day 03 Today we run the two largest rapids on the river; WILD SHEEP and Granite Creek.

Wake to the aroma of fresh coffee and sizzling bacon.  Hells Canyon is the deepest gorge in North America, so it is about 9:30 before we see the sun on the water. Today we run the two largest rapids on the river; Wildsheep and Granite Creek. A quick scout at each provides a view of the excitement to come and a chance for the paddle boat and kayakers to receive last-minute instructions. We will also explore ancient Indian Pictographs and another abandoned homestead at Bernard Creek.

After lunch and maybe some sturgeon fishing we cruise through some smaller rapids and calm water. This is a great time to try out the inflatable kayaks. Our camp tonight has a fantastic view of “Suicide Point”, which is tomorrow morning’s hike. Suicide Point, like all other named places in Hells Canyon, has a great story, but you have to hike to hear it.

From here we enter Pleasant Valley, where the canyon narrows dramatically for several miles.  Another great spot to throw out the sturgeon line for the evening.  The river is calm and slow in front of the camp tonight, making for a different dinner ambiance.  Sleep out under the stars.  Each tent has a tarp spread out in front.  You can pull your pad out for all night or just for a little while.

Day 04 RIVER TIME HANG OUT

Today we visit the site of the massacre of Chinese miners at China Creek.  After lunch, we pass two major tributaries to the Snake River.  First the Imnaha River; here there is time for a beautiful short hike up the pounding Imnaha to the abandoned Mountain Chief Mine Tunnel.  Next, we come to the impressive confluence of the Snake and Salmon Rivers.  The river doubles in volume.

By now you have a true grasp of “River Time.”  There will be more time for playing on the beach, and hanging out in the shade, followed by another evening of laughter echoing off the canyon wall.

Day 05 Snake and Salmon River Meet up

Today after breakfast you pack your gear and hit the water.  We visit the site of the massacre of Chinese miners at China Creek.  They were thought to have had a large cache of gold that was never found. Around lunchtime, we arrive at the place where Nez Perce Indian, Chief Joseph, was forced to cross the river during the spring of 1877.  They crossed the river safely with their families, all their belongings, and horses and cattle, in horsehide rafts pulled by swimming horses.

Day 06 Our Last Day on the River

The river still has more to share.  There are small rapids and some amazing scenery as the river canyon opens up to grassy mountainsides.  Watch for Rocky Mountain big horn sheep, and reflect on the journey that is coming to an end.  Depending on the river flow we may join the rafts together and use a small quiet outboard motor to cover some of today’s miles.

We stop on a beach for our final lunch, and group photos.  A few more miles and we arrive at Heller Bar, our take-out.  Where we will head to our hotel near the airport for our final dinner and goodbyes

Day 07 Group Breakfast and Final Good Bye New Friends!

After breakfast, we begin departure transfers.
